Demo data

Last changed on .

A button that populates the console with fictitious data: several thousand MCP calls over the past seven days, a handful of accounts and a handful of error lines. Intended for a fresh or development installation, where the ‘Call’, ‘Errors’, ‘Overview’ and ‘Dashboard’ screens would otherwise have nothing to display.

Each value is clearly fictitious. IP addresses are taken from the ranges reserved for documentation (RFC 5737) and cannot possibly belong to a real visitor. Email addresses end in .test. Every trace and session ID has the prefix demo-, which a real ID would never have. Running the script again simply adds more lines.

A second button, ‘Delete demo data’, deletes precisely those lines that the first button ever saved. It identifies them by a tick placed next to each row, not by an address string or a name; therefore, a row that merely resembles a demo row by chance will remain, whilst a row that the button actually wrote will always be found.
