At the top of every public page there is a bar. It contains the logo, the navigation menu, the ‘Donate’ button, the language selector, a loading status indicator and the login link. The ‘Donate’ button is to the left of the language selection. Up to and including version 1.3.37, it was positioned between the indicator light and the login link, where it was the fourth control element in a row. If the bar wraps to two lines, the button now remains on the first line. From version 1.3.38 onwards. On the far left is a menu with nine tiles. This is a quick menu to fixed destinations and not a duplicate of the navigation bar.
If a source is down, a red bar detailing the fault appears directly below the bar. This bar is a link to the status page. It only appears when the status is red, so it is not visible on a normal day. Information on what is displayed and when can be found at Laadstatus. From version 1.3.41 onwards.
On a screen narrower than 1280 pixels, the navigation no longer fits alongside the rest of the content. It then becomes a single button with three dashes. This button is positioned on the far left, directly next to the menu with nine tiles and before the logo. This means the two menus on the bar are placed side by side. Up to and including version 1.3.36, the button was to the right of the logo, so the two menus were on either side of the name. From version 1.3.37 onwards. Behind that button is the entire navigation menu, in the same order as in the bar: ‘Search without AI’, ‘For councillors’, ‘For journalists’, ‘Link Claude’, “Case files”, “First-time use”, the source explorer, “Not connected” and the documentation. “Search without AI” appears at the top from version 1.3.91 onwards, and the site’s address without the path also leads there; up to and including version 1.3.90, it was in fourth place and that address led to Startpagina. It is the only entry that answers a question rather than explaining the product, and it does not require an account or an AI assistant. From version 1.3.54 onwards, “Case files” appears immediately before “Getting started”. Up to and including version 1.3.53, it was at the top. These two belong together: one shows what the service offers, the other what to ask once the connection is established. Up to version 1.3.34, the navigation bar disappeared completely on screens narrower than 761 pixels. As a result, the documentation and all but one of the explorers could not be accessed from the navigation bar on a mobile phone. From version 1.3.35 onwards.
