A ‘Donate’ button in the top bar opens a window where a visitor can choose an amount. There are three options: one-off, monthly or annually. For each option, there are four set amounts and a field for entering a custom amount. The button at the bottom states the amount and frequency selected, with a plain-language explanation below of what happens next. This makes it clear before clicking whether the payment will be taken off once or every month.
The same content can be found on the permanent page /nl/doneren. That page exists because a button does not have a URL. A poster with a QR code, a signature at the bottom of an email or a reference in a presentation can link to that page.
Below the window, it says ‘Prefer to make the transfer yourself?’. There you’ll find the IBAN and the reference, each with a button that copies the text to the clipboard, and a QR code for a transfer. If you choose a monthly or annual option, the window displays a QR code without an amount, with the explanation that a QR code always initiates a single one-off transfer and cannot be used to set up a standing order.
The QR code does not work with every bank. ING, bunq, Knab, ASN Bank, SNS and RegioBank recognise the format; Rabobank and ABN AMRO do not. A warning to this effect appears next to the code, with the IBAN provided as an alternative.
At the bottom of the window is the closing sentence of the installation: whether a contribution is tax-deductible and what the money is used for. This sentence is displayed in the language the visitor is reading in. Up to and including version 1.3.36, it appeared in a single language, even for readers accessing the site in English, German or French. From version 1.3.37 onwards.
An installation that does not require payment will not display anything here. The button, the window and the page only appear once an account number has been set up; without an account number, the address /nl/doneren does not exist and is not listed on sitemap.xml either.
